Organic Farming

The Quinta

Quinta de Bispos is sheltered from the northern winds by the Serra do Caramulo, which makes the appearance of frost, usually a regular sight in the Beira Alta, a rare occurrence. Because of this and other climatic factors, the region's micro climate is ideal for the growing of citrus fruit.

In the past, Quinta de Bispos was the main supplier of fruit and vegetables for the Caramulo tuberculosis sanatoria. The 8 ha Quinta, which had been abandoned for about 20 years, was cleaned up in 2006. Most of the trees on the granite-wall terraces have survived the neglect.

Organic Farming

Originally an orchard farm, the Quinta has all types of citrus fruits, as well as nuts, olives, apples and pears. In the future we will grow vegetables and herbs as well.
The Quinta is officially licensed for organic farming. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used on the Quinta.

Organic Farming

The quinta is a certified organic farm, as verified and controlled by SATIVA, a official Portuguese organic farming products certification organism.
