Quinta de Bispos is situated on the slopes of the Caramulo mountain ridge, in a peaceful rural area. Because the region is sheltered from the northern winds, it has a micro-climate with hardly any frost in wintertime. This makes it ideally suited for the cultivation of citrus fruits.

The 8 ha Quinta, which had been abandoned for about 20 years, was cleaned up in 2006. Most of the trees on the granite-wall terraces have survided the neglect.
All agriculture on the quinta is now officially certified as biological.
The buildings on the southern part of the quinta were transformed and enlarged to form the Hotel Rural and the apartments.
